Portland Japanese Garden members are invited to visit the Lan Su Chinese Garden in Portland's Chinatown free of charge during the month of November. In exchange, the Portland Japanese Garden opens its doors free to Lan Su members during November as well. This exciting collaboration gives members of both gardens a chance to learn more about these Portland treasures and to see fall transition into winter.

Entry to Lan Su Chinese Garden Free to Portland Japanese Garden Members
November 1–30
10am-5pm
A visit to the Lan Su Chinese Garden will enhance understanding of the Portland Japanese Garden in that many of the ideas and concepts that underlie Japanese garden design originated in China, including fundamental Daoist ideas about living in harmony with nature. It is interesting to compare and contrast the two traditions in terms of the use of stone, water, and plant materials, as well as the somewhat different role architecture plays in relation to each.

The Portland Japanese Garden Welcomes Lan Su Chinese Garden Members
November 1–30
Tuesday–Sunday 10am-4pm
Mondays noon-4pm
This November, the Portland Japanese Garden welcomes members of the Lan Su Chinese Garden to come share the beauties of autumn. Not only will our gorgeous array of Japanese maples be in full color, but also, in early November our Pavilion features a world-class exhibition in the Art in the Garden series. Stroll the 5.5 acre garden paths and see five different styles of Japanese garden, each with its own special character and features: the Strolling Pond Garden, the Tea Garden, the Natural Garden, the Sand and Stone Garden, and the Flat Garden. End your visit on the Overlook with the most spectacular "borrowed scenery" view of the city of Portland and Mt. Hood.
