About the Advisory Board
The International Advisory Board (IAB) is a network of experts, scholars, philanthropists, and interested individuals who share an active and ongoing dialogue with the Portland Japanese Garden about issues and objectives pertaining to the Garden. IAB members foster connections between the Portland Japanese Garden and its local, national, and international communities, and act as ambassadors and advocates of the Garden’s mission, vision, and programs.
Advisory Board Objectives
Serve as a bridge between the Portland Japanese Garden and our local, national, and international communities:
- Serve as ambassadors and advocates of the Portland Japanese Garden”s mission, vision, and programs
- Bring a higher level of visibility and credibility to the Portland Japanese Garden
- Build bridges to local, national, and international community leadership and communities at large
- Build strategic support among key stakeholder groups
- Connect with the Garden”s various fields of interest nationally, in Japan, and globally
Complement and strengthen governance:
- Assist existing Japanese Garden Society of Oregon and Foundation Boards
- Provide important objective perspectives
- Maintain formal affiliations with individuals and entities outside of current Society and Foundation Boards
Provide assistance to executive staff with a wide range of organizational activities:
- Assist with program development and operations
- Offer business and specialized expertise
- Expand networks in relevant fields nationally and internationally
- Volunteer for projects
- Provide personal financial support
- Help identify sources of support and, as appropriate, assist in outreach for private and public funds
